Interior Design

Interior design is the process and profession of creating a practical and aesthetically pleasing environment inside a defined space.  Some of the things of interest to people carrying out interior design include the walls, doors, windows, lights, furnishings, finishings, and the overall lay out of a space.  The work involved in interior design is related to a number of other disciplines, including architecture, product and furniture design, decoration, and even environmental psychology.  There are a number of reasons why people have become fascinated with interior design in the last couple of decades, such as the introduction of eastern design and Feng Shui concepts to the west, and the popularity of interior design television programs.

The current recession that is happening all over the world is only increasing the popularity of interior design.  While people may not have the money to hire professional interior designers, many are becoming interested in learning how to design and carry out improvements themselves to their own homes.  Television programs such as Grand Designs, Changing Rooms, and 60-Minute Make Over are educating and inspiring people on how to carry out their own interior design in an easy and inexpensive fashion.  While it may not be the most glamorous of home renovation projects, installing roof insulation (Dachdämmung) and other types of thermal insulation (wärmedämmung haus) are a great way to make a home more comfortable and save a lot of money on energy bills throughout the year.

Insulation projects in homes are generally designed to reduce the rate of heat transfer, by altering the methods and processes which are used in heat energy exchange.  The main ways that heat is transferred are via convection, conduction, and radiation.  Different types of thermal materials use different ways and mechanisms to affect the way that heat is transferred in different parts of a building.  By providing a more uniform temperature within a building, and decreasing the overall temperature gradient throughout the year, thermal insulation (wärmedämmung haus) can have a big effect on decreasing energy bills and increasing levels of comfort within a space.  Some types of roof insulation (Dachdämmung) are particularly effective at rising temperatures within a space and saving the occupants lots of money on heating bills.

The home improvement and interior design industries are suffering less than many others are in these times of recession.  People often take on more of a DIY (do it yourself) philosophy when times are tough, and are able to develop new skills as a result.  The down turn in the economic climate, the popularity of interior design and property related television shows, and the prominence of design magazines and websites are just some of the reasons why people are becoming inspired to do their own home improvements and interior design.
